"Trying Times"
Cliff 'Sparrow' Billington

Four feet, eleven and a half inches, five stone seven pounds, and very good on the trampoline, Cliff ‘Sparrow’ Billington will always be famous for his daring climbs of the clock tower in 1964, but what of his accomplishments beneath the tower? According to his report book, Cliff was a ‘trier’.

Rather weak, but tries… Has tried really hard… He tried hard… A trier but makes silly mistakes… He tries… A trier still…A sensible trier… A very conscientious trier..
