Bemrose Summer Fete, June 1964

These slides were taken in June 1964 at the summer fete. I can't remember the reason for the vintage cars and can only have an intelligent guess at who it was in them. The chain of office may indicate the Mayor and maybe one of the ladies is Mrs. Chapman - I'm dredging this up from the memory banks without touching the sides. Dr Chapman you'll no doubt recognise. The band's theme tune was Steptoe & Son which was very popular at the time and we escorted the cars from the west gate to the opening ceremony.

Names:
The chap playing the clarinet and for some long forgotten reason wearing a cycling cape was Harry Royle. Yours truly has the bass drum - and top hat! It must have seemed a good idea at the time.

Guesswork here but it may be Mrs. Chapman trying the wheel alongside the mayor's wife.
Mayor in the rear seat and headmaster as footman!

The Steptoe escort pass the refectory on their way to meet the guests of honour.	Having lead the guests in, the escort pauses for photographs.
.... and march off stage left.	We've all had enough so we're leaving.
